Introduction

The Research Assistant Internship Program is successfully acknowledged in international universities such as Stanford University and James Madison University in the United States and Bath University in England. Accordingly, the Deanship of Scientific Research at King Saud University was the first to introduce the "Research Assistant Internship Program" as one of the initiatives supporting the research process since 1439-1440 H. This was a pioneering step in the developmental movement to strengthen the scientific research infrastructure at the university and to enhance scientific knowledge and research skills while following the 2030 vision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The program seeks to attract many new researchers including undergraduate students, postgraduate students, graduates, and researchers from the administrative departments and integrate them into the research process by preparing them and providing them with the opportunity to work as a research assistant in various disciplines and in any of the research projects offered by the Deanship of Scientific Research while following the terms and conditions supervised by the program.

The program aims to strengthen the infrastructure of scientific research at the university and achieve mutual research benefits between new researchers and researchers from the university’s faculty departments. The program also provides research assistants with the research skills and experience in learning and refining the various scientific techniques through their research participation with researchers from faculty members in the university, enriching their curriculum vitae and their scientific knowledge and experience.

The program’s management provides the researcher with a certificate of participation and a certificate of technical expertise. Moreover, the research assistant will have his/her name included in the published research as a co-author or within the acknowledgement section of the paper depending on the degree of his/ her participation as specified and documented in the signed agreement supervised by the program’s administration and following the Code of the Ethics of Scientific Research and the goals of the Deanship of Scientific Research.
