Student Participation Support Program in Scientific Publishing

Introduction:

In line with King Saud University’s strategic goals aimed at achieving global leadership in scientific research, and as part of the efforts of the University Vice-Rectorate for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research—represented by the Deanship of Scientific Research—to encourage undergraduate and graduate students as well as scholarship students to contribute to research activities, refine their ideas, and develop future-ready skills, the Deanship of Scientific Research is pleased to announce the launch of the “Student Participation Support Program in Scientific Publishing.”

This program aims to encourage students to actively engage in the research process, foster constructive competition among them, and provide financial rewards for those who participate in scientific publishing. It also seeks to highlight student research contributions through scientific poster exhibitions, lectures, or seminars organized by various university units.

The Deanship aims to provide 500 competitive opportunities during the year 2025 through this program for students who meet the eligibility criteria.

 

Program Objectives:

  1.      Encourage students across all disciplines and academic levels to actively participate in scientific research.
  2.      Broaden the base of contributors to scientific research and increase the university’s research output.
  3.      Foster research partnerships with the academic environments in which students’ study and encourage them to sustain these partnerships.
  4.      Develop students’ higher-order thinking skills such as experimental design, data collection, analysis, comparison, discovery, discussion, and formulating recommendations.
  5.      Equip students with teamwork skills and promote participation in joint achievements.
  6.      Cultivate students’ interest and attitudes toward research and contribute to building future generations of researchers.
  7.      Facilitate the transfer of research expertise from distinguished researchers to students.
  8.     Bridge education and learning with research, exploration, and future foresight.
  9.     Showcase the activities of participating students within the university and society to foster a spirit of constructive competition.
  10.      Discover students’ research talents and support them in finding appropriate funding opportunities.

 

Program Outcomes:

   • Published scientific papers in Web of Science journals co-authored by one or more students.

  • 500 student scientific contributions in the form of posters, lectures, or seminars held at the university.

  • Media reports highlighting student achievements.

  • An annually updated database of students participating in scientific research.

Program Requirements:

  1.      Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students at King Saud University, scholarship students, or recent graduates (within one year from the publication date(.
  2.     The research must be officially published or indexed in databases, with a clear publication date, volume/issue number, and page numbers.
  3.     The student’s affiliation in the published paper must be to King Saud University, additional affiliations are allowed with prior approval from the Deanship of Scientific Research.
  4.     The reward applies only to research published in journals listed in the Web of Science databases (SCIE or SSCI) for health and scientific fields, or in Scopus for humanities.
  5.     A reward of SAR 7,500 will be granted for research published in(Q1) or (Q2) journals listed in (SCIE or SSCI).
  6.     A reward of SAR 3,750 will be granted for research published in Scopus-indexed journals (humanities only) or (SCIE/SSCI) journals classified in(Q3) or (Q4). No reward is given for journals ranked in the bottom 10% of the field.
  7.     Students must avoid publishing in hijacked or suspicious journals.
  8.     Students must adhere to research ethics regulations, with a similarity index not exceeding 25%.
  9.     Research published outside the program’s announced timeframe will not be accepted.
  10.     The research must not be funded by any entity outside the university.
  11.     The research must relate to the student’s thesis or area of specialization.
  12.     If more than one student is involved, the reward will be split equally among them.
  13.     There is no requirement to include a specific acknowledgment of this program; papers acknowledging other programs are also accepted.
  14.     All required forms and documents specified by the Deanship must be submitted.
  15.     Rewards will be disbursed according to the program’s allocated annual budget.

 

 

Application Procedures:

  1.      Students must submit their application through the designated program link.
  2.      A document confirming the final publication of the paper must be attached.
  3.      Research published outside 2025 or not complying with program criteria will not be considered.
  4.      All required forms and documents must be provided to the Deanship.
  5.      Selected students must present their research (via poster, lecture, or seminar) according to the Deanship’s approved templates. Scholarship students are exempt from this requirement.
  6.      Students may submit multiple applications during 2025, subject to eligibility and competitive selection criteria.
