International Scientific Partnership Program (ISPP)
Introduction:
Based on the strategic objectives of King Saud University, which aims to achieve global leadership in scientific research, and in line with the commitment of the Vice Rectorate for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, represented by the Deanship of Scientific Research, to encourage the university’s researchers to establish research partnerships with outstanding international researchers to contribute to studying national issues and challenges in the fields of health, science, technology, and social sciences, and to provide innovative solutions through systematic scientific research, the Deanship is pleased to announce the launch of the International Scientific Partnership Program (ISPP).
This program aims to foster constructive and productive collaboration between distinguished faculty members, researchers, and postgraduate students at the university and their counterparts at prestigious international universities by providing financial and administrative support for a joint research project. The program also seeks to enhance the experience of university researchers and postgraduate students by organizing workshops and offering advanced training programs under the supervision of an international team member.
Through the ISPP program, the Deanship aspires to support 30 research projects for faculty members at the university, with the goal of establishing high-quality research partnerships with international researchers. This will contribute to the development of research team skills and increase their chances of securing national and international research grants. The experience gained from these international scientific partnerships is expected to boost the university’s research output, facilitating engagement with national and global challenges and promoting the publication of high-impact research in prestigious peer-reviewed journals.
Program Objectives:
- Contribute to achieving the university’s strategic goals.
- Enhance the university’s global standing.
- Build bridges with prestigious international universities and scientific institutions through research partnerships with distinguished academic and research experts.
- Produce high-quality scientific research.
- Develop research capabilities and transfer knowledge to faculty members and students.
- Support postgraduate students by involving them in research collaboration and supervising their theses.
- Create a conducive environment for international scientific collaboration.
- Support the university’s participation in national and international research grants and increase funding opportunities.
Program Outputs:
- Establishment of international scientific partnership agreements with outstanding academic and research scholars affiliated with prestigious institutions ranked among the top globally.
- Publication of joint scientific papers in high-impact journals in accordance with program requirements.
- Exchange visits and collaborative scientific activities, including training courses, lectures, scientific seminars, workshops, and discussion panels.
- Submission of applications for national and international research grants.
- Transfer and localization of modern technologies.
- Supervision and support for postgraduate students.
- Enhancement of faculty members’ research skills at the university.
- Gaining international experience for faculty members through external engagements.
Program Eligibility Criteria:
Priority is given to faculty members and international professors who meet the following nomination criteria:
1. Criteria for the Principal Investigator from King Saud University:
- Outstanding academic and research record.
- Experience in supervising postgraduate students.
- Experience in international research projects and collaborations.
- Alignment of scientific specializations between collaborators and relevance to research priorities.
2. Criteria for International Professors:
- Outstanding academic and research record.
- Affiliation with a prestigious university or research institution ranked among the top globally.
- Expertise in a research field aligned with national research priorities.
- Experience in supervising postgraduate students.
- Previous experience as a visiting professor at prestigious universities.
- Authorship of books and registration of patents.
- Recipient of international awards.
Mechanism and Implementation Steps:
1.Formation of a joint scientific team, comprising faculty members, students from the university, and international professors meeting the program’s criteria.
2.Development of a feasible joint scientific plan within the agreement period.
3.Collaboration in conducting joint research, publishing its outcomes in scientific journals per university requirements, registering patents, and co-authoring books.
4.Exchange visits between the collaborating research teams, including accompanying scientific activities such as workshops, training courses, and academic lectures.
5.Participation in international conferences relevant to the team’s research specialization.
6.Supervision and involvement of postgraduate students in research projects.
7.Advance payment to the principal investigator from the university as per the contract.
8.Submission of periodic and final reports by program participants detailing achievements and scientific activities. Payments will be made based on these reports.
Application Requirements:
- Updated CV (maximum of three pages) for the international professor.
- Updated CV (maximum of three pages) for the collaborating professor from King Saud University.
- A research proposal according to the approved form.
Program Duration:
- The program duration is 18 months from the date of signing the contract.
